Foam Fire Extinguisher
Foam fire extinguishers are highly effective against Class A fires involving solid combustible materials such as wood, paper, and textiles, and Class B fires involving flammable liquids such as petrol, paint, diesel, and solvents. The foam agent works in two ways: it smothers the fire by forming a blanket that cuts off the oxygen supply, and it seals the surface of burning liquids to prevent vapour release and re-ignition. This dual action makes foam one of the most effective and versatile extinguisher agents for mixed fire risk environments.
Foam extinguishers are particularly well suited to environments where both solid material and liquid fuel risks are present — workshops, storage facilities, garages, warehouses, light industrial premises, and retail environments. They are also widely used as a general-purpose extinguisher in offices and commercial premises where the risk of liquid spill fires, while not the primary hazard, cannot be excluded entirely. The foam leaves less residue than powder and does not present the clean-up challenges of a powder discharge in a working environment.
Modern AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) and fluorine-free foam formulations are available to meet different environmental compliance requirements — fluorine-free options are increasingly specified where environmental regulations restrict the use of fluorinated compounds. All Safegear foam extinguishers are EN 3 certified and available in a range of sizes. Not suitable for use on live electrical equipment or Class F cooking oil fires.
